Although it’s only a myth, you’ve heard the story of how George Washington chopped down the cherry tree, right? Well, according to one of my nieces—who, admittedly, was very young at the time—ol’ George was not the culprit.
I don’t recall the reason why we questioned her, but one day we asked: “Who chopped down the cherry tree?” Without missing a beat, she responded: “Johnny Appleseed.”
What?
In response to our stunned silence, she explained: “Johnny Appleseed had to cut down the cherry tree . . . to make room for his apple trees.” Duh!
Obviously, my Dad and I aren’t the only ones in the family with good imaginations.
Lol
Lots of good stories in your family!
I totally agree, Nell. I could share one a week for the rest of my life and still not tell them all. But don’t worry, I won’t do that. I have just as many non-family stories I want to share, so I’ll try and provide a nice mix of the two. Thanks for reading.
Very good imagination!
So true. And it probably won’t surprise you to learn that this is the same niece who asked me if you had to die to be buried in the Nashville National Cemetery. Lol
