Time for a “Baking” Did You Know? and there’s none better than the true story of how God used my Pound Cake to make His point.
Once upon a time, the receptionist of a large, multi-doctor office was gifted a Pound Cake by Betty-the-Baker. She considered sharing it with her officemates but quickly abandoned the idea.
That night after dinner, she and her children enjoyed the yummy cake. The next day after work, she hurried home, thinking how good another piece of cake would taste.
When she approached her ground-floor condo, she noticed a black line along the sidewalk to her front door. But it wasn’t a line drawn on the concrete. It was a line of ants marching up the walk and into her home!
She opened the door and stared in disbelief. The ants marched from her entry into the kitchen and up the cabinet, going directly to her cake. In fact, so many ants covered the cake, it appeared black.
With a heavy heart and a churning stomach, she pitched the cake and killed the ants.
As she cleaned, she pondered this unexpected invasion. With two teenagers in the house, it wasn’t uncommon for food to be left out. But, until now, she’d never had a problem with ants. Even stranger, uncovered food sat on the counter near the plastic-wrapped cake, but the ants hadn’t touched it. Their only target had been the cake.
Thanks to those darn ants, she’d only gotten one piece, the same as if she’d shared the cake with her coworkers the day before.
And that’s when it hit her.
God had used her Betty-the-Baker Pound Cake and those ants to drive home His point: Always be willing to share.
Message received, lesson learned . . . and kitchen, thankfully, once again ant-free.
