Christmas. As the song says, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” and the “Happiest season of all.”

Gifts

Christmas is about giving, but it’s more than an exchange of brightly wrapped presents, whether bought or made. The best Christmas gifts can’t be wrapped.

  • The Gift of Christ’s Birth… Remember, the best and first Christmas gift given was Christ. He left His heavenly home to come to earth and bring us salvation.
  • The Gift of Hospitality… Offering a meal and friendship is the simplest but most meaningful way to show others we care.
  • The Gift of Play… In today’s busy world, it’s important to stop and have fun, enjoying time with friends and family.
  • The Gift of Presence… Make it a practice to give time to family, friends, and good causes all year. Spending time with loved ones at Christmas, though, is especially treasured.
  • The Gift of Creation… Celebrate God’s handiwork and gift to mankind by enjoying all of nature’s resources.
  • The Gift of Imagination… God’s creativity is seen in all His creations. Let them inspire you to dream and create.
  • The Gift of Peace… The most impactful gift after the Christ child’s birth (and the life He gave for us) is God’s peace that surpasses all understanding.

Christmas Spirit

The Spirit of Christmas is captured in giving, beginning with that ultimate gift—God’s son.

Follow His example by reaching out in love with helping hands to others. This Christmas be the light of hope to a world without hope. But don’t limit it to Christmas time only. As the new year dawns, strive to practice the Spirit of Christmas by giving throughout the year.

And don’t forget the other side of the giving coin. Equally important is to graciously accept and enjoy the gifts God gives us. Like talents, if we don’t use and appreciate His gifts, we may one day lose them.

Find joy in the Christmas tradition of exchanging brightly decorated presents with friends and family, but don’t forget to celebrate the gifts that can’t be wrapped.

Merry Christmas!
